Buffs Ease Past Cavs

Wise, VA – Milligan College took control early in the second half and eased past UVA-Wise men’s basketball, 67-54, Tuesday night in Appalachian Athletic Conference action.

Jeff Barnes led the way for the Buffs (21-8/12-5 AAC) with a double-double of 19 points on seven of nine shooting and 10 rebounds in the win. Zach Dezarn added 17 points and Danny McKeehan and Tyler Estepp both had 11.

Zydrunas Rackauskas paced the Highland Cavaliers with his own double-double of 14 points, nine of 10 from the foul line, and 12 boards. Bryan Sexton added 12 points as the other double digit scorer.

The visitors shot 52.2% (12 of 23) in the first half. Milligan opened a 10-point, 20-10, lead in the first 10:30. The Cavs cut it to four, 22-18, on back-to-back Cassidy Vaughan baskets but the Buffs led 33-28 at the half.

Leading 37-32, Milligan scored the next eight points with a jumper by Adrian Harrison extending the difference to 45-34. UVA-Wise would never mount another serious threat the final 14 minutes to fall 67-54.

The Cavs will complete their regular season Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. at Union College.
