Mellinger Joins UVA-Wise Men’s Hoops Staff as Full-Time Assistant

Wise, VA – A familiar face was hired to fill the new full-time assistant men’s basketball coach at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise. Former Highland Cavalier player and two-year student assistant coach Blake Mellinger will assume the increased duties immediately with the UVA-Wise program.
Mellinger will be the coordinator of recruiting activities as his main direction while assisting with the program’s daily operations and with scheduling. He will also the continued individual workouts throughout the offseason and preseason for player improvement.
The Glade Spring, VA native remains with UVA-Wise head coach Lee Clark’s staff. He joins part-time assistant Donnie Jordan.
While a student, Mellinger was a starting forward two seasons (2003-05) for UVa-Wise. He produced 536 points (8.5 points per game) and grabbed 264 rebounds (4.2 rpg) over those two seasons.
The former player has worked various basketball camps to his credit including Wofford College, Clemson University, Virginia Tech, University of South Carolina and UVA-Wise.
Mellinger received his bachelor’s degree from UVA-Wise in December of 2005.
