Rackauskas Names AAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

Wise, VA – After being selected the Appalachian Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year last season, Zydrunas Rackauskas has picked up where he left off in the beginning of this season. Rackauskas posted three double-doubles to take UVA-Wise to two wins in three games to be named AAC men’s basketball Player of the Week.
The 6-4, 225-pound forward averaged 20.3 points, 12.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. The sophomore from Kaunas, Lithuania made 16 of 24 field goal attempts (67.0%) and 27 of 38 free throws in the three contests.
The Jeffersontown, KY High grad started the week off with 23 points where he made 14 of 16 free throws and 12 boards in a 70-65 overtime victory over Pikeville College. In the second affair, the forward made eight of 12 from the floor for 24 points and grabbed 13 caroms in an 84-60 defeat against Centre College. He followed those two games with a 14-point, 11-rebound and two assist effort as the Highland Cavaliers defeated Crown (TN) College, 83-63.
In five games, Rackauskas has made 24 of 41 field goals while averaging a team-leading 17.6 ppg and 10.6 rpg.
The sophomore and the UVA-Wise team will return to the court Tuesday night when it hosts Emory & Henry College for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
