Lions Fend off Cavs Down the Stretch

Dayton, Tenn. – After leading by four points at the intermission, Bryan College was able to fend off the comeback attempt by UVa-Wise down the second half stretch. The Lions was able to seal the late win over the Cavs by a 74-65 final in the two teams Appalachian Athletic Conference men’s hoops opener.
Senior Jarred Soles hit four treys for 20 points to go with five assists and four rebounds to pace UVa-Wise (4-6, 0-1 AAC). Joey Blackwell made five of nine attempts for 10 points and five assists. Travis Brannon snatched six caroms on the inside.
Bryan (4-3, 1-0 AAC) had four double digit scorers with 16 points by Charlie Lytle as high scorer.
The two teams played to a 31-27 Lion lead in at the half. Bryan saw the point difference come at the foul line where it connected on 18 of 28 attempts while UVa-Wise made just five of its nine charity stripe tries.
The Highland Cavaliers will continue its swing for a 7:30 p.m. affair against the Scots of Covenant College on Saturday night.
