Cavs Falter in Second Half Against Bulldogs

Athens, Tenn. – After leading by a point at intermission, UVa-Wise faltered in the second half as it could not keep up with the torrid shooting of host Tennessee Wesleyan on Wednesday night. The Bulldogs made 18 of 24 second half attempts to take away the 91-82 Appalachian Athletic Conference men’s basketball contest over the Highland Cavaliers.

Jarred Soles (Yorktown, Va.) led the way for UVa-Wise (6-10/2-3 AAC) with 18 points and three assists. Seth Gibson (Wytheville, Va.) hit four treys and totaled 15 tallies. Adam Hood (Rye Cove, Va.) and Pance Kecev ( Nickelsville, Va.) chipped in 10 points apiece. Daniel Adams (Floyd, Va.) grabbed nine rebounds and Joey Blackwell (Kingsport, Tenn.) handed out four assists.

Tyler Gaskin had the big night for Tennessee Wesleyan (5-10/3-2 AAC) with 25 points. Wes Suiter added 17 points.

The Cavs finished the opening half with a one point lead, 35-34. The Bulldogs hit 18 of 24 attempts from the floor and 20 of 28 free throws to outscore the visitors by 10 points to complete the comeback for the 91-82 final.

UVa-Wise returns home Saturday evening for a 6:00 p.m. affair against Montreat College.
