Early Rams Blitz Too Much for Cavs

January 15, 2008
BOXSCORE

Bluefield, Va. – Bluefield College showed why its one of the top Appalachian Athletic Conference men’s hoops teams early and rode the momentum the rest of the night. The Rams opened a 10-point lead in the first five minutes and did not allow the Highland Cavaliers any closer than six points before completing a resounding 109-92 high-scoring affair.

UVa-Wise (7-11/3-4 AAC) was haunted by an unusual 27 turnovers and were outrebounded 42-32. Jarred Soles (Yorktown, Va.), Pance Kecev (Nickelsville, Va.) and Adam Hood (Rye Cove, Va.) dumped in 14 points apiece. Eric Swords (Williamsburg, Va.) chipped in 12 points.

Bluefield (13-5/5-2 AAC) saw five players hit double figures with Coryon Ross’ 25-point and nine rebound effort pacing the way. James Childress added 18 tallies.

A Soles three-pointer with 11:21 in the first half cut the deficit to 19-13. The momentum turned out to be short lived as Bluefield ran off the next seven points and worked the lead to 58-37 at the half. The Cavs were unable to mount a solid threat in the second half to fall 109-92.

UVa-Wise will host the other AAC leader in Milligan College Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
