Cavs Balanced Attack Takes Care of Bulldogs

Wise, Va. – The UVa-Wise bench netted 48 points as part of a balanced attack Saturday afternoon to take care of Tennessee Wesleyan in men’s hoops. Adam Hood downed 19 points and Seth Gibson was perfect from the field for 14 points as the Highland Cavaliers took care of the Bulldogs, 83-72.
Hood (Rye Cove, Va.) down four three-pointers and made seven of 14 attempts for a team-high 19 points for UVa-Wise (12-14/7-7 Appalachian Athletic Conference). Gibson (Wytheville, Va.) drained all six of his field goals including two treys for 14 points as the other double figure player. Travis Willis (Woodbridge, Va.) and Eric Swords (Williamsburg, Ky.) added eight points apiece off the bench.
Tyler Gaskin and Zach Gulmire paced Tennessee Wesleyan (8-18/5-9 AAC) with 21 and 17 points.
After being tied 11-11 nine minutes into the game, the Cavs outscored the visitors 26-14 the rest of the half to a 37-25 intermission advantage behind Hood’s 13-point half. The Bulldogs made two runs at the home team in the latter half.
The margin increased to 15 points, 43-28, before Tennessee Wesleyan’s Wes Suiter made a layup for a 52-48 score with just over 11 minutes remaining. Gibson hit a jumper before Willis made three-straight baskets and the Cavs went on for the 83-72 final to improve to 8-1 at Greear Gym.
UVa-Wise will make the trek to Montreat College for a 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night affair.
