Montreat’s Hot Second Half Helps Coast Past UVa-Wise

Montreat, N.C. – Montreat College shot an astounding 79-percent for the second half to help coast past UVa-Wise in Appalachian Athletic Conference play Tuesday night. Adam Hood and Travis Willis netted 15 points apiece off the bench for the Highland Cavaliers in the 88-70 defeat.
Willis made six of nine attempts for 15 points while Hood had a pair of triples as part of his 15 tallies. Jarred Soles added 11 points to his credit for UVa-Wise (12-15/7-8 AAC).
Matthew Njoku made eight of 13 tries for a game-high 21 points for Montreat (11-16/8-7 AAC). Kinard Barnett chipped in 17 points and six rebounds.
The visitors trailed 37-29 at the half and came out of intermission to a rude awakening over the final 10 minutes of the game. Montreat could not miss down the stretch as part of its 19 of 24 shooting to outscore UVa-Wise by 10 points in the second half for the 88-70 final.
UVa-Wise will look to rebound Saturday afternoon for a 4:00 p.m. affair against the AAC’s second place team Bluefield College.
