Bad Second Half Leads to Cavs Defeat

Milligan College, Tenn. – The second half provided the UVa-Wise men’s basketball team trouble as host Milligan College separated from its opponent for the Appalachian Athletic Conference victory. Despite receiving 27 points from Adam Hood and Travis Willis off the bench, the Highland Cavaliers were outscored by 18 points to see the Buffs win 82-62.
Hood netted 15 points including three treys to pace the Cavs (12-17/7-10 AAC). Willis added 12 points on five of 10 shots for 12 points as the other double figure player and had six rebounds. Travis Brannon and Justin Sorensen dumped in eight points apiece.
Derrick Nave hit for a game-best 20 points off the Milligan (20-8/10-7 AAC) bench. Jeff Barnes had a double-double of 14 points and 18 rebounds on the inside.
After playing in a tight opening half, Milligan took a 35-33 score to intermission. The Buffs came out blazing in the second stanza to pull away from the Cavs where they shot 63% (17 of 27) for the 82-62 victory.
UVa-Wise will honor the squad’s five seniors on Saturday in the final home game in a 4:00 p.m. tip-off against Union College.
