November 24, 2007
BOXSCORE

Spartanburg, SC – The UVa-Wise men’s basketball team proved to be a pesky Saturday opponent for NCAA DI Wofford College. The Highland Cavaliers trailed by a few as three points with five minutes left in the first half before the Terriers took until the final six minutes to put away the 83-62 final.

UVa-Wise (4-5) saw senior Jarred Soles (Yorktown, Va.) make five of 11 from the floor including three triples for a team-high 15 points. Bryan Sexton (Lebanon, Va.) added nine tallies while Robert Amis (Hazard, Ky.) and Adam Hood (Rye Cove, Va.) contributed eight points apiece.

Wofford (2-1) had four double figure scorers led it to the win. Terry Martin made 14 of 15 free throws for a game-best 22 points while Junior Salters scored 17 points.

The Cavs had two early brief leads when Pance Kecev ( Nickelsville, Va.) hit a three, 3-2, and Soles followed with another to make it 6-4 in the opening two minutes. The first half would be tied two times as UVa-Wise would hang around the whole half. Wofford led by just a point, 27-26, with 8:07 in the stanza and by three points, 31-28, at 5:02. Amis cut the home advantage down to six points, 41-35, with three seconds left for the intermission score.

Amis hit his second three-pointer for the Cavs with 14 minutes left in the game to put the scoreboard back to a six-point margin, 48-42. Wofford connected on back-to-back treys to put the game into double digits for the first time but UVa-Wise would not stop being pesky. Soles hit a jumper with 8:16 in the contest to make it 59-50 before the Terriers put in the next eight points to finally put away their visiting opponent down the stretch.

UVa-Wise will now be off until starting Appalachian Athletic Conference action next Friday night at Bryan College for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
