Cavs Drop Two in King Tournament

BRISTOL, TN - The UVa-Wise men's basketball team dropped its second consecutive game Saturday, a 70-59 loss to King College in an early-season tournament held on the King campus in Bristol, Tenn.
The game was for third place in the King College/Allen Chiropractic Classic. The Cavaliers (0-2) fell 70-52 to the University of Rio Grande in the opener Friday.
The Redmen went on to defeat the University of Indiana Southeast Saturday in the championship game.
Freshman forward Seth Gibson (Wytheville, Va./George Wythe High) led UVa-Wise in scoring with 15 points, and junior guard Parker Gemmell (Bristol, Va./John Battle) and Blake Mellinger (Glade Spring, Va./Patrick Henry) added 11 points each.
Both Gibson and Gemmell had five rebounds to lead the Cavaliers. Mellinger was named to the all-tournament team for his efforts in the two contests.
The senior scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds in the opener. UVa-Wise plays in non-conference action Tuesday night at No. 22 Pikeville (Ky.) College. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
