Cavs drop ninth straight game

WISE, Va. – UVa-Wise ended its home season Saturday night with a 79-49 loss to Appalachian Athletic Conference rival Bryan College. It was the Red and Gray’s ninth consecutive defeat. Junior Parker Gemmell (Bristol, Va./John Battle High) led the Cavaliers, now 3-17 in the AAC and 3-25 overall, with 12 points. Blake Mellinger (Glade Spring, Va./Patrick Henry High) hauled in eight rebounds to pace UVa-Wise. Versell Wells, the conference’s No. 2 scorer, led the Lions with 20 points. The Cavaliers play again Tuesday at AAC and regional rival Virginia Intermont College.
