Cavs begin road trip with third-straight loss

BARBOURVILLE, Ky . –Blake Mellinger (Glade Spring, Va./Patrick Henry High) scored 14 points and Marjan Jankov (Strumica, Macedonia/Powell Valley High) tallied 12 off the bench, but UVa-Wise lost its third-consecutive contest in a 92-60 decision Tuesday night on the road against Union College in Barbourville, Ky. Union’s Jerrod Gibbons scored 15 points to lead the Bulldogs to the Appalachian Athletic Conference win. Union improves to 10-14 overall and 8-6 in the conference with a win that secured a season-series split between the two clubs. UVa-Wise defeated the ‘Dogs 66-49 in Wise back in November. Tuesday’s loss dropped the Highland Cavaliers to 3-19 overall and 3-11 in the AAC. The Cavs play the second leg of their current three-game road swing Thursday night at Bluefield College. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m. against the AAC's first place team.
