Nationally-ranked Pikeville runs past Cavs, 94-64

WISE, Va. – Parker Gemmell scored a game-high 18 points for UVa-Wise, but No. 18 Pikeville (Ky.) College easily handled the Cavaliers Monday night with a decisive 94-64 non-conference victory over their regional rivals at Greear Gymnasium in Wise.
Walter Harris and Daniel Price scored 17 and 15 points, respectively to lead the Bears to their seventh consecutive win and a 12-1 season record.
UVa-Wise, meanwhile, slips to 2-13 this season. Pikeville led the contest the entire way, jumping out to a quick 7-0 lead to start the game. The Bears hit 63 percent of their shots from the field, while UVa-Wise converted only 37 percent.
Turnovers also proved to be costly for the Cavaliers as they gave the ball over to the Bears 11 times. Pikeville scored 11 points from those miscues.
Redshirt freshman Jarred Soles was the only other UVa-Wise player to reach double figures in scoring. He hit for 11 points on four of 13 shooting. The Cavaliers Blake Mellinger and Justin Sorenson scored nine points each. Sorenson led UVa-Wise with five rebounds.
