Helton and Lee Picked All-AAC Women’s Basketball

Wise, VA – UVA-Wise seniors Sarah Helton and Chelsea Lee were both selected to the All-Appalachian Athletic Conference women’s basketball teams for the third time. Helton is a repeat honoree of the first team while Lee was picked to the third team.

The Lady Cavaliers’ (8-23) two players combined for 3,636 points, 1,257 rebounds, 703 assists and 606 steals in their four years in the starting lineup.

Helton, a NAIA All-American third team last year, returns to the All-AAC first team. She also was picked to the AAC All-Defensive team as well. For the fourth-straight season, the Wise, Va. native led the team in scoring (19.7 ppg) and rebounding (8.3 rpg). In her last contest at the AAC tournament, Helton’s 30-point effort pushed her over the top in becoming the Lady Cavs’ all-time career scoring leader with 2,190 points to go with her 1,014 caroms.

Sarah wrapped up her career as the program’s steals leader with 332. She was named the AAC Player of the Week three times for the 2006-07 season. The J.J. Kelly product scored 30-plus points three times and at least 20 points in 14 games on the year. She posted nine double-doubles, nine double digit rebound contests and set a career-best 18 rebounds at home against Milligan.

Lee ran the point position for each of the past four years and was selected to the All-AAC third team. She was a second team honoree last year and a third teamer as a sophomore. The Pound High alum finished fourth on the career scoring list with 1,446 points while tying for the career record in assists (469). The guard added 274 steals to her career line.

The whole starting five Lady Cavs of Helton, Lee, Rachel Helton, Terri Ann Hill and Kim Norris made the Academic All-AAC team. Rachel Helton pumped in 1,136 points and 191 three-pointers the past four years while Hill netted 880 tallies and grabbed 532 rebounds. Norris, a sophomore and only non senior, had a career-best 15 points and five assists against Covenant while averaging 4.0 points per contest.
