Collier Garners Lady Cavs’ First Basketball Honor of Season

Wise, VA – The first honor of the 2006-07 season was awarded to the Lady Cavs’ LaShay Collier. The senior guard garnered the Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Week for her 23.5-point average in the two UVA-Wise contests last week.

Collier, a senior from Wise, Va., was the team’s top scorer with 29 points in the 94-87 overtime road defeat at Kentucky Christian. She added three rebounds, five assist and two steals while making 11 of 15 shots from the field, her one three-point try and seven of eight foul shots.

The J.J. Kelly High grad produced a second quality effort with 18 tallies, six boards, four steals and two assists in a 76-73 victory over Alice Lloyd. She made nine of 11 shots from the floor for the contest.

For the week, Collier averaged 23.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3.5 apg and 3.0 steals while shooting 76.9% from the field.

23 rd-ranked UVA-Wise will take its show home to Greear Gym for a 7:30 p.m. contest against Berea College following the men’s 5:30 p.m. affair versus Pikeville College.
