Free Throw Misses Costs UVA-Wise at King

Bristol, TN – Leading 59-53 with 2:22 in the game, UVA-Wise went cold on key free throws in the final moments to allow King College to prevail. The Lady Tornado came from behind in the final minute to edge out the Lady Cavs, 61-60, in the Appalachian Athletic Conference contest.
UVA-Wise (1-9/0-4 AAC) managed only one of four free throws in the final 1:22. King freshman Beth Raby scored all eight of her points in the final two minutes to power the home team to the win.
The Lady Cavs connected on 10 of 20 free throws in the game. UVA-Wise played the game with a very short bench of seven players dressed with the trio of LaShay Collier, Crystal Ratcliffe and Kim Norris were all sidelined with injury. Sarah Helton led the squad with 22 points on seven of 16 attempts, seven rebounds and seven steals. Lee added 16 points on six of 12 attempts while Lauren Jervis handed out four assists. Rachel Helton chipped in 10 tallies.
Kristi Moody paced King (8-4/3-1 AAC) with 13 points. Tiffany Daniel was the other double figures with 10 points.
The Lady Tornado led 28-21 at the half before the Lady Cavs rallied and led by as many as 59-53.
UVA-Wise will now be off until traveling to the prestigous NAIA Challenge at Disney's Orlando, Florida home. The Lady Cavs will first face Malone (OH) College at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18th. |
