Pikeville Jumps on UVA-Wise from Tip for Victory

Pikeville, KY – Pikeville College jumped on UVA-Wise from the tip and rode the fast start to a 75-65 women’s basketball victory Thursday evening.
The Lady Bears (6-11) ran out to a 12-0 advantage in the opening 5:15 and never trailed. The victory ended the two game win streak for the Lady Cavs (3-15).
Sarah Helton put together his second game in as many nights with more than 25 points. Helton tallied 26 points to go with five rebounds, four steals and three assists. Her sister, Rachel, and Terri Ann Hill both totaled 10 points in the defeat. Chelsea Lee handed out eight assists and stole five balls. UVA-Wise was doubled up on the boards, 49-23, in the contest.
Pikeville had a balanced attack with four starters in double figures. Whitney Hogg accounted for 13 points while Kristal Daniels, Vicki Hall and Tonya Amburgey added 12, 10 and 10 scores. Hall grabbed 10 rebounds as well.
After opening down 12-0, the Lady Cavs was able to cut the margin to seven points, 28-21, on a Sarah Helton trey at 3:53. The momentum did not last as Pikeville finished the half with the last three buckets to make it 34-21.
The Lady Bears never led their advantage fall below 10 points in the latter half before the 75-65 final score.
UVA-Wise will complete its three-game week on Saturday when it faces Milligan College for a 5:30 p.m. tilt.
