Kentucky Christian Prevails Over UVA-Wise in Women’s Hoops Opener

Grayson, KY – After battling back from behind in the second half, the University of Virginia’s College at Wise could not complete the season opening victory at Kentucky Christian on Tuesday night. The Lady Cavs outscored the Lady Knights, 44-38, in the latter half only to have the home team battled back in overtime for a 94-87 win.
The 23 rd-ranked Lady Cavs (0-1) received outstanding efforts by three of their seniors. LaShay Collier connected on 10 of 17 shots for 28 points while Sarah Helton chipped in 26 points of her own on identical 10 of 17 from the floor. Chelsea Lee dropped in 18 points. Collier added five assists and Lee four with Helton grabbing seven boards. UVA-Wise received 15 points from the rest of the roster.
Playing in its fifth game of the year, Kentucky Christian took a 35-29 halftime lead but saw UVA-Wise take the game into overtime with a 44-38 second half. The Lady Knights battled back for a 21-14 extra frame win.
The Lady Cavs will try for its opening win of the 2006-07 season Thursday night in part of a doubleheader with the men’s team at Alice Lloyd College for 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. contests.
