Helton Has Big Game but Covenant Wins Second Half and Game

Lookout Mountain, GA – UVA-Wise’s Sarah Helton had one of her best nights of her career with 30 points and 12 rebounds but Covenant won the second half and the Appalachian Athletic Conference women’s basketball game, 76-70, Tuesday night.
Helton continued her outstanding play in the past few by hitting 12 of 22 shots for 30 points, her season-best, and grabbed 12 rebounds. Sarah also stole four balls and handed out three assists. Rachel Helton was the lone other UVA-Wise (4-18/3-8 AAC) player with 11 points. Chelsea Lee handed out six assists and stole three balls.
Liz Martin exploded for the Lady Scots (14-7/7-4 AAC) with 25 points on seven of 15 attempts while handing out seven assists and swiping four balls. Lyndee Biles and Natalea Gulyas, who had seven rebounds, both added 13 points.
The Lady Cavs held a slim 29-28 at the intermission. The Lady Scots were able to outscore the visitors 48-41 in the latter half to go on for the 76-70 win.
UVA-Wise will return home for a 2:00 p.m. affair against Virginia Intermont on Saturday afternoon.
