Athens, TN – After an upset of King College Tuesday, the UVA-Wise women’s basketball team could not pull off a second for the week. Tennessee Wesleyan rode a big first half lead to a going away 90-57 victory over UVA-Wise Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Bulldogs improved its season mark to 18-6 and 10-4 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. The Lady Cavs fell to 6-19 and 5-9 in the league.
Chelsea Lee produced a team-high 18 points and handed out four assists for UVA-Wise. Sarah Helton added 13 points and five boards. The Lady Cavs were outrebounded 45-27 and made just 18 of 56 (32.1%) on the day.
Tennessee Wesleyan had a balanced effort with Leann Pelham, Jennifer Patterson and Ashley Nichols each having 12 points. Tambra Crowe chipped in 10 tallies. Pelham also grabbed 11 rebounds.
The Lady Bulldogs made 19 of 36 first half attempts to help build a 49-25 score. UVA-Wise was outscored in the latter stanza, 41-32, for the final score of 90-57.
The Lady Cavs return to home Tuesday night in their next contest against Montreat College for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
