Lady Cavs Hit Century Mark in Easy Victory

Wise, VA – Sarah Helton scored 13 points in the opening six minutes as UVA-Wise built a 19-2 lead and never looked back to hit the century mark in a 109-65 defeat of Montreat College women’s basketball.

Helton added 16 points the other 22 minutes she played for a game-best 29 points on 12 of 17 shooting. She added 13 boards for the double double to help take UVA-Wise to 7-19 and 6-9 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

Five other Lady Cavs’ players hit in double figures. Rachel Helton five three-pointers before finishing with 17 points. Terri Ann Hill, Brittany Maxwell and Sheila Royall added 12, 11 and 11 tallies. Chelsea Lee had 10 points and six assists while Kim Norris had six assists of her own. Every UVA-Wise player had at least three points on the night.

Montreat (2-24/2-13 AAC) had five double figure scorers led by Shennelle Feather with 13.

After opening with a 19-2 run, UVA-Wise extended its lead to as many as 33 points, 45-12, before reaching a 60-25 halftime score.

The margin increased to 50 points, 94-44, with 8:31 before UVA-Wise took away the 109-65 victory.

The Lady Cavs will host Alice Lloyd College Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m.
