UVA-Wise Wins Second of Week, Defeats Alice Lloyd

Wise, VA – For the second time in three nights, the University of Virginia’s College of Wise claimed a women’s basketball victory on the strength of Sarah Helton’s 33 points over Alice Lloyd, 88-79.
The Lady Cavaliers sweep the season series with the victory and improve to 8-19. The Lady Eagles fall to 13-10.
Helton connected on 12 of 20 points for 33 points, 22 tallies coming in the first half, to go with a game-best eight rebounds. Chelsea Lee hit for 16 points and Terri Ann Hill added 14. Rachel Helton dished out a career-high six assists with eight points. UVA-Wise won the board battle, 40-29, and forced 28 Alice Lloyd turnovers.
Kaylan Richardson made 10 of 15 attempts for 25 points to lead the visitors. Becky Thomas dumped in 20 points and Whitney Lykens 13 points of her own.
The game was close with a margin of no more than five points in the opening 12 minutes as the Lady Eagles led 25-24. UVA-Wise went on an 11-2 run in the next four minutes to lead 35-27 and would never trail again even with a 44-42 intermission score.
The Lady Cavs built an advantage of as many as 10 points, 69-59, on a triple from Crystal Ratcliffe at 7:08. The home team led by 12 points five minutes later before going on for the 88-79 victory to make it two wins for the week.
UVA-Wise will try for three-straight on the week on Saturday at Bluefield College for a 2:00 p.m. game.
