Helton Picked AAC Player of the Week

Wise, VA – Even though it was a tough week over for the UVA-Wise women's basketball team, Sarah Helton had an outstanding individual effort and was rewarded with the Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Week award.

The senior forward averaged 23.7 points and 10.7 rebounds in helping the Lady Cavs (3-16) defeat Bluefield College (70-54) but falling in close contests at Pikeville (75-65) and Milligan (58-55).

Helton scored 28 points on 12 of 20 field goal attempts with 12 boards and three assists against Bluefield. She followed that performance with 26 tallies, five rebounds, four steals and three assists at Pikeville. Sarah finished her week with a second double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds along with three assists and three steals.

The veteran player is leading the squad with a 16.9 ppg and 7.4 rpg averages. She also has assisted on 46 baskets and stole 42 balls.

UVA-Wise hosts Union College on Tuesday afternoon starting at 5:30 p.m.
