Lady Cavs Struggle Against Lady Lions Friday Night

Dayton, Tenn. – The UVa-Wise Lady Cavs hit just 15 shots from the floor and were outrebounded 57-40 as they struggled to a 76-43 defeat at the hands of the Bryan College Lady Lions in the Appalachian Athletic Conference women’s basketball openers.

UVa-Wise (2-8, 0-1 AAC) saw Kim Norris, Shandi Edwards and Meghan Rutherford drop in seven points apiece to lead the scoring on the night. Lauren Jervis, Adrienne Womack and Mindy Carter chipped in six tallies each. Rutherford and Carter grabbed seven boards and Edwards had four assists. The visitors shot 27.8% from the floor (15 of 54).

Bryan (3-4, 1-0 AAC) saw Ashley Gray pace its effort with 16 points and Lauren Copeland with 15 tallies.

The Lady Lions built a 38-20 lead at the half and almost duplicated the same exact score in the second stanza, 38-23, for the 76-43 final.

UVa-Wise will finish its weekend swing with a 5:30 p.m. affair at Covenant College Saturday evening.
