AAC Leading Lady Scots Defeat Lady Cavs

Lookout Mountain, Ga. – The Appalachian Athletic Conference women’s basketball leading Covenant College defeated UVa-Wise on Saturday evening. The Lady Scots were solid both taking care of the ball with just eight turnovers and hit 16 of 18 free throws for an 82-60 victory over the Lady Cavs.
Sophomore Brittany Maxwell (Whitewood, Va.) made six of 10 shots including four of eight from long-range for a UVa-Wise (2-9/0-2 AAC) high 17 points. Kim Norris (Eidson, Tenn.) added 14 points. Meghan Rutherford (Bristol, Va.) contributed 10 tallies and grabbed nine boards. Mindy Carter (Bristol, Tenn.) had her best game as a Lady Cav with eight points and eight rebounds.
Covenant (9-2/2-0 AAC) had four double figure scorers with Candace Lee topping the roster with 19 points. Laura Grady and Lyndee Biles contributed 15 and 14 points. Liz Martin had a double-double with 11 points and 10 assists.
The Lady Scots built a lead, 51-30, in the first half on the power of seven triples. UVa-Wise played even with the host, 31-30, in the later stanza but fell 82-60.
The Lady Cavs return home for a 5:30 p.m. contest against Virginia Intermont Tuesday night, December 4th.
