BOXSCORE
Bluefield, Va. – Kim Norris and Brittany Maxwell netted 20 points apiece to lead the Lady Cavs to the first road victory of the season Tuesday night. UVa-Wise led all but three minutes early in the game on the way to sound 67-50 women’s basketball win at Bluefield College.
Maxwell (Whitewood, Va.) made six of 11 shots for her UVa-Wise (4-14/2-5 Appalachian Athletic Conference) career-best 20 point night . Norris (Eidson, Tenn.) made 12 of 16 free throws and four of eight from the field for her sixth 20-point game of the year. Lauren Jervis (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Adrienne Womack (Floyd, Va.) both grabbed 10 rebounds.
Megan Criss was the lone double digit scorer for Bluefield (1-15/0-7 AAC) with 14 points.
With 11:41 left in the first half, Shandi Edwards (Abingdon, Va.) hit a jumper to edge the Lady Cavs ahead 15-14. The visitors would not trail again in the game as they led by as many as nine points in the opening half and saw that same margin become the halftime score of 35-26.
Maxwell opened the second half with a triple and Norris followed with a pair of foul shots to extend the UVa-Wise lead to 40-26. Bluefield was only able to pull to within 10 points two times the rest of the way before the 67-50 final tally.
UVa-Wise will return home this weekend for a 2:00 p.m. Saturday tilt against AAC rival Milligan College.
