Leading 37-31 at the half, Edwards drained a triple for the game’s largest lead, 40-31, just over a minute into the second stanza. The Eagles owned the next three minutes with four-straight buckets to pull within 40-39.

Trailing 43-40, Womack made her mark. The center score nine of 11 points in a five minute stretch starting with 13:05 left in the game to take UVa-Wise into the lead by four, 51-47, as part of an 11-4 spurt where the team would not trail again.

Midway battled to the end and would tie the game two times in the last 1:19 with the last coming, 65-65, at 1:01. Womack hit the next basket and Maxwell and Edwards combined to make five of six free throws in the final 19 seconds to pull out the 72-67 win.

The two young teams will tangle for a second time next Friday in a 5:30 p.m. contest at Midway.
