Virginia Intermont Produces All-Around to Take UVa-Wise Women

Bristol, Va. – Virginia Intermont produced a total team effort to take UVa-Wise in women’s basketball Saturday evening. Meghan Rutherford led four double figure scorers for the Lady Cavs as they fell 92-60 to the Lady Cobras in Appalachian Athletic Conference action.
Rutherford grabbed seven rebounds to go with her 16 point night. Adrienne Womack added 14 tallies including six of six from the free throws. Brittany Maxwell and Shandi Edwards contributed 13 points apiece.
The Lady Cavs (4-20/2-10 AAC) were able to shoot just 32.5% but committed just 16 turnovers to the home team’s 20. The Lady Cobras (7-16/4-8 AAC) dominated the boards, 52-23, and hit 30 of 53 attempts (56.6%).
Autumn Arney scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Virginia Intermont. Haley Odle had the top scoring honors with 25.
The home team took a 42-33 lead into half and extended it to as large as 34 points at the end of the game before the 92-60 final tally.
The Lady Cavs will stay on the road for a Wednesday night 5:30 p.m. contest at King College.
