Lady Cavs Doubled Up by Tornado

Bristol, Tenn. – After playing tough for the majority of the opening half, the Lady Cavaliers saw a late Tornado run to end the first half and continue through the second stanza. UVa-Wise’s Adrienne Womack and Kim Norris reached double figures with 15 and 13 points but King College doubled up its visitors 80-42 in women’s basketball Wednesday night.
Womack made six of 13 shots for her 15-point effort for the Lady Cavs (4-21/2-11 Appalachian Athletic Conference). Norris saw six of eight attempts fall through the basket for 13 tallies. Meghan Rutherford led the team on the boards with seven.
King (13-10/10-3 AAC) saw five players hit double digits with Beth Raby leading the way with 15. Whitney Tweed added 14 points. The Tornado outrebounded the Lady Cavs 39-20 and made 47.7% from the field compared to 32.7% from the visiting club.
UVa-Wise saw Womack cut the margin down to four points, 26-22, with 5:20 left in the first half. King came back to outscore UVa-Wise 11-4 for a 37-26 halftime score.
The Tornado dominated the second half by continuing the scoring pace 43-16 for the 80-42 final.
UVa-Wise returns home for a 2:00 p.m. Saturday matchup with Tennessee Wesleyan.
