Montreat Holds Court Against UVa-Wise Women

Montreat, N.C. – Meghan Rutherford posted her second double-double in a row but was not enough for UVa-Wise as Montreat College held serve, 68-50, on its home court on Tuesday night.

Rutherford paced the Lady Cavs (5-22/3-12 Appalachian Athletic Conference) with 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Kim Norris was the lone other double figure performer with 10 tallies including eight of 10 from the free throw. UVa-Wise shot just 14 of 46 from the floor and were outrebounded 34-21.

Monteat (12-14/5-10 AAC) had three starters in double digits with Whitney Mace, Kimberly Staley and Whitney Boone having 18, 17 and 13 points. Kera Bryant grabbed 13 boards.

After trailing 32-25 in a contested first half, the Lady Cavs could not bounce back with a better half as the home team prevailed in the second 20 minutes for the 68-50 final.

UVa-Wise will seek its second home win in a row on Saturday afternoon in a 2:00 p.m. bout against Bluefield College.
