Eagles Finish Strong to Take Care of Lady Cavs

Wilmore, Ky. – Asbury College finished strong by putting the last nine points on the board and holding UVa-Wise scoreless over the final two minutes to take 72-61 women’s basketball victory on Tuesday night.
The Lady Cavs (2-7) saw four players reach double figures. Kim Norris (Eidson, Tenn.) and backcourt mate Brittany Maxwell (Whitewood, Va.) dropped in 15 and 13 points including six combined three-pointers. Meghan Rutherford (Bristol, Va.) made six of 11 attempts for 12 tallies while Mindy Carter (Bristol, Tenn.) had a season-best 10 points.
The Eagles (4-5) received big nights from Lindsey Wood and Anna Stephenson, who had 26 and 21 points along with 10 boards apiece.
Asbury led by three points, 38-35, at the intermission. UVa-Wise had the difference to two points, 63-61, with 2:19 on the clock but was outscored 9-0 the rest of the way for the 72-61 final.
UVa-Wise will now be off until opening its Appalachian Athletic Conference slate at Bryan College Friday night at 5:30 p.m.
