October 26, 2007
Chilhowie, Va. – The first 2008-09 women’s basketball recruit, Emily Doane, inked her commitment to the Unversity of Virginia’s College at Wise program in a signing ceremony held at the Chilhowie High School.
The 5-4 guard will join the head coach Rachel Clay-Keohane’s young roster for next season and add another backcourt talent to the program. Doane will look to be a part of the retooling of the Lady Cavs program who will look to get back to the 2005-06 form of 24-10 after struggling to an 8-23 mark last season.
Doane helped the Chilhowie High Warriors captured the Hogoheegee District tournament title and compiled an 18-7 season mark. As a junior, the guard earned All-Region C honorable mention and All-District first team. The Smyth County News & Messenger selected Doane as its Player of the Year after being the top scorer in the district.
The future Lady Cav is the daughter of Charlie and Tammy Doane of Chilhowie, Va. and plans to major in pre-medicine in her collegiate career.
