Lady Cavs suffer AAC setback to Lions

BRISTOL, Tn. -- SopSophomore Sarah Helton (Wise, Va./J.J. Kelly High) scored 19 points and grabbed 16 rebounds Saturday night, but UVa-Wise could not slow the Lady Lions of Bryan (Tenn.) College who dropped the Lady Cavs 75-54 in Appalachian Athletic Conference women’s basketball action at Wise’s Greear Gymnasium. Helton’s 19 put her to within 48 points of 1,000 for her career at UVa-Wise. Classmate Chelsea Lee (Pound, Va./Pound High) added 15 points as the Lady Cavaliers slipped to 10-10 in the AAC and 10-16 overall. Bryan’s Brittany Swanson led the second-place Lions (17-3 AAC, 21-7 overall) with 17 points, and senior Sarah Bass added 16. UVa-Wise next plays on the road Tuesday at Virginia Intermont College.
