WISE -- Sarah Helton (Wise, Va./J.J. Kelly High) continued to have a hot shooting hand Tuesday night as she scored 33 points and helped UVa-Wise scorch visiting Tennessee Wesleyan College 74-67 in Appalachian Athletic Conference women’s basketball action at Greear Gymnasium.
The sophomore, who is averaging more than 30 points over her last four games, made four of five three-point attempts and grabbed seven rebounds in the win that propelled the Lady Cavaliers to a game above the .500 mark in the conference at 9-8. UVa-Wise’s second victory in as many nights also improves the club’s record to 9-14 overall. The Lady Cavs drilled Alice Lloyd College 93-71 Monday night in a game that had originally been scheduled for Saturday but was pushed back because of snow an ice in the region on Saturday.
Point guard Chelsea Lee (Pound, Va./Pound High) and Terri Ann Hill (St. Paul, Va./St. Paul High) both scored in double figures for the Cavaliers Tuesday, hitting for 19 and 12 points, respectively. Hill cleaned the glass for a game-high 12 rebounds.
Molly Baldwin (Richlands, Va./Richlands High) had a solid defensive game for UVa-Wise, hauling in six rebounds and blocking four shots.
Kathryn Brock led the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points, and Tambra Crowe had a double-double of 15 points and 11 boards.
UVa-Wise returns to the court Saturday for a 5:30 p.m. matchup with Milligan (Tenn.) College, looking to increase its current winning streak to four games.
