King Runs Her Way to AAC Female Runner of the Week

Wise, VA – A building program received its first accolade of the year on Tuesday morning. The University of Virginia’s College at Wise saw women’s cross country runner Janice King named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Female Runner of the Week.
King, a freshman from Fries, VA, earned the honor after finishing 11 th overall in the Roanoke College Invitational last Saturday. In the race, the first year runner set her personal season best time of 20:57 and her performance ranks in the top six efforts in the conference to date.
The Highland Cavalier cross country teams will return to action this Saturday when they take part in the King College Invitational in Bristol, Va.
Dishner Receives Third Straight Regional Setter of Week Honors

Wise, VA – For the third time in as many weeks, Davina Dishner of the University of Virginia’s College at Wise picked up the NAIA Region 12 and Appalachian Athletic Conference Setter of the Week honors.
Dishner has been solid the entire season for the 9-3 Lady Cavs’ team. The junior helped UVa-Wise to a perfect 3-0 week against AAC opponents with 3-1 wins over Bryan College and Tennessee Wesleyan while shutting out Covenant College, 3-0.
The Gate City, Va. Native averaged 11.7 assists per game with a match-high 45 assists versus Tennessee Wesleyan. She dug 3.27 balls per contest and downed almost one kill per game while hitting .391 for the week.
The Lady Cavs host Bluefield College on Tuesday night before traveling to face Montreat College on Wednesday night.
ity of Virginia’s College at Wise cross country teams competed against NCAA Division I Appalachian State on Friday evening. Both the Highland Cavalier men and women were tightly bunched in the dual meet.
Appalachian State took the men’s side with a shutout 15 score while the Cavs finished with a score of 79. The UVa-Wise women ran only four runners, one short of scoring the meet as a team.
For the men, Sean Stiltner, Seth Collins and Jonathan Baker came across the finish line only seconds apart in 20 th (23:39), 21 st (24:38) and 22 nd (24:44). Bradley Sharpe and Adam Reed rounded out the five in 25 th (28:50) and 26 th (35:27) over the 6.4k course.
Janice King led the Lady Cavs runner placing 22 nd with a time of 22:51 for the 5k course. In 24 th and 25 th places, Brittney Mullins and Laura Guagliardo were only two seconds apart in 23:54 and 23:56 while Bridget Bevins finished 26 th in 28:15.
The squads will return next Saturday when they take part in the Roanoke College Invitational in Salem, Va.
