UVa-Wise Runners Excel at Maryville

Maryville, TN – The University of Virginia’s College at Wise men’s cross country team members excelled to post career best times across the board Saturday at the Maryville College Homecoming Invitational. Janice King topped the Lady Cav women by taking 12th.
The Cavs’ men finished fifth of the seven team field with a score of 98. Lincoln Memorial won the event with a 39 while Lee University, Maryville College and LaGrange College had 70, 73 and 97 scores.
Sean Stiltoner recorded an outstanding time of 28:02.12 for his best time of his career as well as taking fifth place. Seth Collins and Jonathan Baker came across the line back-to-back in 12th (30:44.06) and 13th (30:49.55). Bradley Sharpe wrapped up 31st in 33:18.10 while Sean Sedberry and William Reed rounded out the best efforts with times of 39:04.50 (43rd) and 48:11.42 (47th).
The women’s race was the first time the team has ran a 6k on the season. King was having the race of the season on the women’s side by running in the top five. The freshman developed cramps halfway through the race but was still able to take 12th place in 27:57.69. Brittney Mullins was right behind King in 13 th with a time of 27:59.59. Laura Guagliardo completed the trio for the Lady Cavs by taking 16th (28:57.03).
The cross country teams will travel to Louisville, Kentucky this Saturday when they take part in the Appalachian Athletic Conference championships/NAIA Regional meet.
