Cavs Runners Face Tough Field at Southeastern Classic

Berea, KY – The Cavs’ cross country runners faced a tough field Saturday at the Southeastern Classic. Four nationally ranked teams dotted the men’s field as UVA-Wise finished a respectable 19th place.
UVA-Wise finished the meet with a score of 537. The defending NAIA national champions Virginia Intermont won the event with a score of 29 followed by Malone (63), Cedarville (78) and Emory-Riddle (174). Cedarville won the women’s side with a 39 while the Lady Cavs did not score on the cold day and muddy course with only three runners.
Senior Sean Stiltner came across in the fastest time for the Cav men. Stiltner ran the 8K in 29:14 for 101 st of the 217 man field. Freshman Stephen Gregory was not far behind him in 105 th (29:21). Seth Collins was the third UVA-Wise runner in 160 th (31:22) while Britten Olinger (167 th) and Derek Bunch (170 th) rounded out the scoring runners with times of 31:43 and 31:53. Jared Taylor (181 st, 32:33), Austin Taylor (198 th, 33:40) and Bradley Sharpe (204 th, 34:18) completed the men’s runners.
The women had a good outing. Sophomore Janice King paced the trio of Lady Cavs in 113 th of 198 participants with a time of 22:58 for the 5k race. Freshman Maureen Seibold was seven second behind King in 120 th (23:05). Junior Bridget Bevins completed the three UVA-Wise runners in 175 th place (25:36).
The teams will now be off until traveling to Louisville, KY for the Appalachian Athletic Conference and NAIA Region XII championships on November 4 th.
