Cavs Runners Produce Another Solid Outing

Salem, VA -- The UVA-Wise building of its cross country programs continued Saturday with another solid outing. The Highland Cavaliers produced a quality fifth place finish at Roanoke College's Maroon Invitational. Sophomore Janice King and freshman Stephen Gregory paced the teams with 18th and 22nd finishes.
UVA-Wise recorded a fifth place men's finish with a score of 128. Mary Washington College captured the men's title with 37 while Bridgewater College was the runner-up (59). Southern Virginia and Roanoke College completed the meet just ahead of UVA-Wise with tallies of 87 and 104. The Lady Cavs had only three runners participate and did not score.
All three of the Lady Cavs improved their times from the last race. King took 18th with a time of 22:16 for the 5k event. Sophomore Maureen Seibold was next in 28th (23:16) while junior Bridget Bevins wrapped up 52nd (25:37) for the UVA-Wise women.
Gregory was the men's top finisher for the first time with a time of 29:31 for the 8k course. Sean Stiltner was the next Cav runner in 26th (29:57). Junior Seth Collins (38th, 31:33), sophomore Britten Olinger (39th, 31:44) and freshman Derek Bunch (47th, 32:44) round out the other three scoring runners. Four other UVA-Wise runners ran in the field - Jared Taylor (53rd, 32:44), Brad Sharpe (56th, 33:50), Austin Taylor (68th, 37:20) and Sam Sarfo (72nd, 41:15).
The cross country teams next head to Georgia to compete in the Mountain Top Classic, hosted by Covenant College, on October 7th.
