Killough Shines in 1st Collegiate Cross Country to Pace Cavs

Spartanburg , SC – Freshman Brittany Killough shinned in her first collegiate cross country race for UVa-Wise. Killough blazed to a time of 19:01, good for seventh place and 12 th overall when counting results from NCAA Division I runners at the Spartanburg Methodist Eye Opener on Saturday morning.
Killough and the increased number of women’s cross country runners for the Lady Cavs helped the program score as a team for the first time in three years. The squad placed 16 th of 22 teams while the UVa-Wise men were 11 th of 17.
Killough was followed by her older sister, Desirae who took 42 nd (21:24) of the 165 runner field. Tamara Haack was the next placer in 110 th (24:21) and was followed Maureen Seibold (126 th – 26:06), Therese McMahon (139 th – 26:53), Leah Arthur (147 th – 27:43) and Brandi Bailey (165 th – 33:55).
Freshman Collin Skeen was the top Cav men’s runner. Skeen came away 27 th (28:14) in the 138 runner field. Sophomore Stephen Gregory was the second UVa-Wise man in 58 th (28:51). The rest of the men rounded out to be Derek Bunch in 64 th (28:51), Spencer Adams in 73 rd (30:56), Britten Olinger in 83 rd (31:45) and Landon Smith in 91 st (32:24).
The Cavs runners will return to action next Saturday morning at the Berea (KY) Invitational.
