Killough Impressive as Top Collegiate Runner at Hagen Stone Meet

Greensboro, NC – The stellar cross country season continued for freshman Brittany Killough on Saturday.  Killough was the top collegiate runner in a field with various NCAA DI teams and was second overall to an individual runner at the Hagen Stone Classic.

Killough, who ran an 18:55.8, was second to an unattached runner who ran an 18:04.7, in the 136 runner field.  The Wise, Va. native was well ahead of any attached runner with Chantry Jacqualyne of Longwood the second collegiate runner coming in 28 seconds back, 19:23.4.

The women’s team completed the Division II portion of the race in 10 th place of 15 teams.  On the men’s side, the Cavs were seventh of nine Divison II squads.

Tamara Haack provided the Lady Cavs with a strong showing in 69 th as she crossed the line in 23:15.  Maureen Seibold, Therese McMahon and Brandi Bailey completed the team in 85 th (24:01), 102 nd (25:31) and 135 th (34:21).

Freshman Collin Skeen paced the UVa-Wise men with a 22 nd place (28:19) finish in the 126 runner field of the 8k race.  The Cavs received standout efforts by sophomore Stephen Gregory and freshman Spencer Adams, who had a personal best, in 42 nd (29:26) and 50 th (29:53).

Senior Britten Olinger was the top runner of the other four Cavs’ racers in 78 th (32:18).  Derek Bunch and Landon Smith followed in the next minute in 85 th and 89 th in times of 33:02 and 33:20.  In his first 8K, Aaron McMahon had a quality outing in 92 nd with a time of 33:54.

UVa-Wise will head to Boone, NC to take part in the Blue Ridge Open at Appalachian State next Friday afternoon at 5:00 p.m.
