Killough Has Tough Ending to Great Year at NAIA National Championship Race
November 19, 2007
Kenosha, Wis. – Freshman Brittany Killough had a tough ending to a great first year of collegiate cross country on Saturday. The NAIA All-Region XII and All-Appalachian Athletic Conference performer suffered a race-ending injury early in the third mile at the NAIA National Championship race.
In extremely difficult racing conditions of 30 degree temps and a rainy drizzle, the AAC Freshman of the Year had a great start. At the two-mile mark, Killough was 40 th (11:55) of the field with more than 200 runners and on pace to match or best one of her best times of the year. Shortly after starting the third and final mile, the Wise, Va. product succumbed to a race-ending injury. Brittany wanted to finish the race but was prevented by race officials.
The nationals appearance wrapped up arguably the best single season by a UVa-Wise cross country runner. Killough will return with a young and upcoming roster for an even stronger outlook for the fall of 2008.
