Skeen Produces Top Cavs’ Cross Country Finish at Southeastern Classic

Nashville, Tenn. – Freshman Collin Skeen continued his outstanding first season to lead the UVa-Wise cross country teams at Saturday’s Southeastern Classic meet.
The first-year runner came in 32 nd in the top flite field which included 22 teams as the Highland Cavaliers finished 16 th. The Lady Cavs produced a 20 th place finish in the 22 squads.
Skeen ran a 27:49.35 over the 8k event. Sophomore Stephen Gregory was the second UVa-Wise men’s runner in 61 st (29:18.14) and freshman Spencer Adams was right behind in 65 th (29:31.18). Britten Olinger, Landon Smith and Aaron McMahon rounded out the men’s runners in 115 th (31:53.45), 129 th (33:19.46) and 138 th (35:18.31).
On the women’s side, top runner Brittany Killough was in the top ten until cramping over the last mile to go across the line in 77 th (22:02.82). Freshman Tamara Haack posted a solid outing in 102 nd (23:15.71) and second-year runner Maureen Seibold was the next Lady Cav in 109 th (23:49.04). Three other freshmen completed the team for the Classic of Therese McMahon (125 th, 25:35.44), Leah Arthur (135 th, 27:47.78) and Brandi Bailey (145 th, 32:48.32).
The UVa-Wise teams will now take next weekend off to gear up for the Appalachian Athletic Conference/NAIA Region XII Championships on Saturday morning, November 3 rd at Sycamore Shoals Park in Elizabethton, Tenn.
