Seibold Earns All-AAC to Highlight Cavs Track Effort

Banner Elk, N.C. – Maureen Seibold earned All-Appalachian Athletic Conference honors for UVa-Wise with a runner-up finish in the high jump to highlight the individual efforts at the Tri-Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships last weekend.

The championships were held on April 18-19 at Lees-McRae College. The trip was the first for the Highland Cavaliers’ athletes to the track championships in recent years along with just the second meet of the 2008 spring season for the group.

Women

Maureen Seibold claimed the All-AAC honor with a high jump best of 1.42 for second in the conference and seven overall.  

Brittany Killough ran to a fourth placing in the AAC and seventh overall in the 800 meters in 2:26.80. The freshman also was fifth in the league and eighth overall in the 1500m (5:07.60).

The effort of these two Lady Cavs propelled the team to a surprising third place finish in the conference in a meet dominated by the winner (Milligan) and runner-up (King).

Men

Freshman Collin Skeen paced the men. He finished fourh in the AAC (14th overall) in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:23.00.

Stephen Gregory had a good showing with a fifth place in the league (19th overall) in the 800m run (2:12.80) and finished 10th in the conference (23rd overall) in the 1500m with a time of 4:31.30, a two-second improvement from his last meet.

The men scored a total of three team points in the conference meet.

The team will wrap up the 2008 outdoor track & field season with a trip to the Radford Invitational on Saturday, April 26.
