Damm and Mullins Voted CoSIDA College Division Academic All-District 3

Wise, VA – The University of Virginia’s College at Wise has not only performed extraordinarily on the football field in 2006 but have a pair of outstanding student-athletes in the classroom. Seniors Jon Mullins and Ray Damm were voted to the College Sports Information Directors of America’s College Division Academic All-District 3 team.
The duo helped the Highland Cavaliers to their third best season, 8-3, in the program’s 16-year history. UVA-Wise completed the season ranked 24 th in the NAIA final regular season rating as well as the best finish of tied for second in the Mid-South Conference since joining the league.
Kicker/Punter Ray Damm earned the academic/athletic honor with a 3.81 GPA in Business Administration. The junior, who is foregoing his final year of eligibility to graduate in three years, scored 65 kicking points this season, a school record. He made 47 extra points, another UVA-Wise season record, in 55 attempts. The Fredericksburg, VA native connected on six of 10 field goal attempts with a long make of 36 yards. The Stafford High School product punted 31 times with an average 33.9 yards per punt with nine punts inside the opponents’ 20-yard line.
Offensive tackle, Mullins ( Rosedale, VA/Honaker) has been an anchor of the offensive line for the past four years. The senior helped the Cavs finish the season as the top rated offense in the NAIA ranks with 485.4 yards per game. The team also averaged a school record 40.4 points per game and 296.5 passing yards per contest. Mullins is finishing a degree in Government where he carries a 3.44 GPA.
