Fourth-Ranked Tigers Quiet Cavs

Georgetown, KY -- The clouds moved in to Toyota Stadium for the kick-off Saturday and the upset hopes of the Highland Cavaliers moved out. Fourth-ranked Georgetown College scored on its first offensive play as John Keene ran in a fumble recovery to set the tone of the day to defeat 18th-ranked University of Virginia's College at Wise, 41-13.

The Tigers stayed perfect against the Cavs of 7-0 over the past seven seasons. Georgetown is now 4-0 and improve to 1-0 in the Mid-South East Division while UVA-Wise suffered its first loss to go to 4-1 and 0-1 in the division.

Freshman Aric Evans was the offensive bright spot for the Cavs. The Cincinnati product caught five passes for 170 yards and two touchdowns of 59 and six yards. Running back Ra'Shad Morgan (Chesterfield, VA/Meadowbrook) produced his fourth 100-yard game with 111 yards on 27 carries. Quarterback Randy Hippeard (Stafford, VA/Colonial Forge) struggled in the pocket completing 15 of 38 passes for 247 yards with one score and three interceptions on the wet afternoon. The UVA-Wise offense did outgain Georgetown 413 to 391 yards.

Middle linebacker Ben Robertson (Morehead City, NC) had solid game in his first full game back from injury with 11 tackles while Matt Hutchings (Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill) had two tackles for loss.

Georgetown quarterback Jeff Smith rushed through the middle of the Cavs' line on the first offensive play for 39 yards before Brandon Moore (Manassas, VA) forced a fumble where Keene scooped up the loose ball to take it 26 yards for the touchdown and 7-0 lead. Clay Hamblen picked off Hippeard passes on both of the UVA-Wise first two possessions. Smith found James Brown from 28 yards on the first play after the second interception for a 14-0 lead after a quarter.

The Tigers returned a punt for an 89-yard score and another rushing score for a 28-0 halftime lead. Trailing 38-0, the Cavs found the endzone two times in the final stanza to bring the final to 41-13.

UVA-Wise will look to rebound next Saturday, October 7th when it hosts Lambuth University for a 1:30 p.m. kick-off at Carl Smith Stadium.
