September 2, 2006
Game Stats

Wise, VA -- Ra'Shad Morgan rambled 45 yards with 48 seconds left to put The Unviersity of Virginia's College at Wise ahead of North Greenville University for good on the gridiron Saturday night. Cavs' Reggie Dorsainvil sacked the Crusader quarterback in the endzone forcing a fumble recovered by Matt Hutchings for the final score for the 48-35 final.

UVA-Wise improves to 2-0 for the second year in a row and are now perfect in two weeks against NCAA Division II competition. North Greenville falls to 0-1 in the early season.

The Highland Cavaliers racked up 467 yards of total offense on 74 plays. Morgan (Chesterfield, VA/Meadowbrook)posted his second 100-yard performance of the season with 149 yards on 28 carries with four touchdowns (10, 4, 5 and 45 yds.). Quarterback Randy Hippeard (Stafford, VA/Colonial Forge) had another solid outing by hitting 25 of 35 attempts for 288 yards with one four-yard touchdown and one interception. Freshman Matt Barbour (Brookneal, VA/William Campbell) caught seven passes for 95 yards while Herb Watson (Virginia Beach, VA/Churchland) added four balls for 62 yards and Kendon Doe four receptions for 30 yards and one score.

Dorsainvil (Virginia Beach, VA/Salem)was the defensive standout. He had the key interception of the game to setup the leading score, added six tackles, two sacks for 13 yds. and forced two fumbles. Freshman Chad Hooker (Hampton, VA/Kecoughtan) contributed 10 tackles and a tackle for loss while Matt Gular (Hampton, VA/Kecoughtan) and Corey Wheeler (Manassas, VA/Stonewall Jackson) each had nine stops.

With the game tied 35-35, Dorsainvil intercepted Crusader QB Eric Moeller on the visitor 30-yardline. After an unsportsmanlike penalty, Morgan took the hand off and broke two tackles five yards past the line and continued untill reaching paydirt in the endzone to make it 42-35 with 48 seconds left in the game. The Dorsainvile sack and Matt Hutchings fumble recovery on the first North Greenville play of the next drive made the final 48-35.

North Greenville recorded three touchdowns in the second quarter after Moeller hit Travis Talbert from 28 yards and Brandon Dobbins for four yards to take a 21-14 lead at the half. For the second year in a row, UVA-Wise trailed North Greenville at intermission as the Crusaders led 24-14 in Tigerville, SC last year.

The Cavs dominated the third quarter for the second week. After outscoring Brevard 20-0 a week ago, UVA-Wise made it 14-0 this evening on two four-yard scoring plays to make it 28-21 after three quarters.

The Crusaders scored twice around Morgan's third score for the 35-35 score to head into the wild last 3:50 of the game.

Rashad Cummings ran for 130 yards on 21 carries with a touchdown to lead North Greenville on the ground. Moeller completed 13 of 25 attempts for 207 yards and two scores. Talbert caught five passes for 64 yards and a TD while Dobbins had four catches for 54 yards and one score. Josh Williams paced their defense with 11 tackles while Doug Wilson and Derek White each had 10.

UVA-Wise will now have next week off before entertaining its first NAIA opponent of the year, Southern Virginia, on Saturday, September 16th starting at 7:00 p.m.
