Cavs Rise to 13 th in NAIA Poll, Highest Rank under Wasem

Wise, Va. – After defeating its third-straight NCAA Division II opponent last Saturday night, the UVa-Wise football team rose up the NAIA national football poll ranks. In the first regular season poll, the Highland Cavaliers moved up nine spots to 13th to capture the highest national ranking under sixth year head coach Bruce Wasem.
UVa-Wise was rated 22nd in the preseason NAIA released exactly a month ago on the strength of the team’s 8-3 campaign in 2006. For the third-straight season, the Cavs have started the season 3-0 after posting victories over Brevard, 41-23, at North Greenville, 61-55, and at Concord, 35-28.
The highest ranking UVa-Wise reached under Wasem before this week was 16th after the third game last year.
UVa-Wise will face its toughest two back-to-back opponents after having Saturday, Sept. 15th as the lone open week. The Cavs will host 9 th-ranked Georgetown College on Sat., Sept. 22nd before traveling to 6 th-rated Bethel (TN) College the following weekend.
