Hippeard Throws Way to Mid-South Football Offensive Player of the Week

Wise, Va. – After setting four football school records Saturday night, UVa-Wise quarterback Randy Hippeard was honored with the Mid-South Offensive Player of the Week announced today. The junior signal-caller threw for 564 yards and six touchdowns to take the Highland Cavaliers to a comeback victory over North Greenville, 61-55.
UVa-Wise trailed 34-20 at the intermission before outscoring host North Greenville 41-21 in the second stanza. The Cavs trailed 55-48 with 2:42 left in the game before Hippeard engineered the fifth scoring drive of the second half capped by a seven yard pass for a 55-54 tally with 1:11 left to go. After his go ahead two-point conversion was intercepted, UVa-Wise recovered the onsides kick to allow Hippeard to drive the offense 54 yards on four plays for the game-winning score with 22 seconds on the clock.
On the night, Hippeard completed 32 of 48 attempts for 564 yards. He threw one interceptions but passed for six touchdowns. The junior from Stafford, Va. ran for another score from one yard for a total of 565 yards of total offense.
After two weeks of the season, the Colonial Forge High grad leads the NAIA in total offense (390.5 yds/gm) and passing offense (391.0 yds/gm) while third in passing efficiency (189.01). He has completed 48 of 72 attempts for 782 yards and eight scores.
The Cavs will travel to Athens, WV for a 7:00 p.m. affair against NCAA DII Concord College on Saturday night.
