Denny Compston - Defensive Coordinator

For the fourth year, Denny Compston will lead the Highland Cavalier defensive unit. Compston has instilled new life and vigor into the UVa-Wise defense since his arrival. The veteran coach also handles the linebacking corps for the 2007 campaign along with coordinating the unit as a whole.
Last fall, the Cavs defense continued its improvement in its second season under Compston and have now allowed 10.2 fewer points per game over that time. His defenders, defensive end Reggie Dorsainvil and defensive back Brandon Moore earned both All-Mid South and Virginia All-State acclaim. Linebacker Ben Robertson also received all-conference second team selection
The defensive coordinator came to UVa-Wise with an abundance of experience including holding the head coaching position at Urbana College. He has worked as an assistant at Newberry College and Lock Haven University while being the defensive coordinators for Concord College, West Virginia Intstiute of Technology, Earlham College and Valparaiso University.
The Ohio native is a 1978 graduate of Defiance College and was a graduate assistant at Ball State University from 1981-83.
Coach Compston has a daughter, Kayla and a son, Ben, who lives in Tiffin, Ohio.
